Unilever initiatives 2018
In 2018, Unilever has managed to reach 16,800 people directly and over 1 million people through radio & press so far through the different diarrheal disease initiatives that were run throughout the year. Millions of people have benefited from the initiatives that Unilever Zimbabwe runs year on year & the business is committed to continue effecting change in Zimbabwe.
Cholera and Typhoid responses
• 15,800 people were reached directly and over 400,000 people through radio & print this year as Unilever responded to Typhoid in Gweru is August of this year as well as Cholera in September this year
• The responses comprised of roadshows & school visits so as to educate the masses on the easiest prevention methods (clean toilets & clean hands)
Global Handwashing day
• Kick Out Cholera is a campaign which was a call to the nation to practice the correct hygiene habits to avoid contracting diarrheal diseases i.e. Cholera & Typhoid as a continuation from the responses conducted earlier this year
• 1,000 people were reached directly and over 600,000 people through print, radio & TV on the 15th of October which was Global Handwashing Day
• The commemoration marked the launch of a schools program targeting 15,000 children teaching them how to Kick Out Cholera
Toilet renovations
• Unilever through the Domestos Brand has renovated 11 Public Toilets over the past few years across Zimbabwe namely
– Charge Office Harare, Jason Moyo Harare, Sunningdale, Mabvuku, Mutare, Gweru, Masvingo and 4 in Bulawayo
• An average of 300 people use the toilets in an hour, meaning, in just a day, 39,600 people would have benefited from the Domestos initiative while over 1 million people benefit from the Domestos initiative in a month, such that over 20 million lives have been impacted in the past 2 years
• This year, Unilever is renovating the 4th Street Rank toilets to make them 12 as part of the World Toilet Day celebrations on the 19th of November every year
