CSR Network Zimbabwe to help Zororai Old people’s home in Mutare
With the advent of the covid-19 pandemic world over, vulnerable communities went on the back burner as the world battled with the virus. Zororai Old people’s home in Sakubva, Mutare was one of them, thus as part of CSR Network Zimbabwe February CSR month initiatives we have identified this home and want to mobilize resources for them.
Zororai Old Peoples home is a not for profit organization that is responsible for giving care and support to destitute elderly people with different cultures and backgrounds. Currently they are 14 inmates, 6 are females and 8 males, ranging between 70 to 101 years old.
Government for some years has been struggling to adequately support the Home (Read more on that here: https://www.newsday.co.zw/2017/12/old-peoples-home-gets-700-in-15-years/ ) hence they rely fully on support from corporate and individual well-wishers to get by.
The elderly residing at the home suffer from a myriad of chronic illnesses with the most common being diabetes, hyper tension and cancer. As such the home needs an adequate emergency vehicle to be able to rush the inmates to the hospital in case of an emergency. They already have the vehicle but however are requiring assistance in purchasing 4 or more tires for the car.
Taking into consideration their ages, the inmates are very vulnerable to Covid-19 and as such there is a need to provide them with adequate protection against the virus by providing them with sanitizers and masks.
On their list of requests is basic grocery items, as well as adult diapers.
Furthermore, the Home has 12 caregivers 7 are official staff and 5 students. They are in need of personal protective clothing, and cleaning supplies as they tend to the elderly and ensure the Home is a clean and safe environment for the inmates. Due to the lack of funding, they are working on a volunteer basis. For the great work that they do, some appreciation through cash or kind is welcome.
