ESGNZ Applauds Econet, Ecocash for taking a lead in ESG

The Environment, Social and Governance Network Zimbabwe (ESGNZ) has applauded Econet Wireless Zimbabwe and EcoCash Holdings Zimbabwe Limited for becoming the first companies in the country to obtain independent assurance on their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) information after the two sister companies recently successfully completed an independent assurance process.

HARARE – The Environment, Social and Governance Network Zimbabwe (ESGNZ) has applauded Econet Wireless Zimbabwe and EcoCash Holdings Zimbabwe Limited for becoming the first companies in the country to obtain independent assurance on their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) information after the two sister companies recently successfully completed an independent assurance process.

Commenting on this development ESGNZ Executive Director Willard Razawo said that the organisation is elated that our ESGNZ members are taking a lead on sustainability issues in Zimbabwe adding that we would like to see more and more companies emulating what these two organisations have done.

ESG reporting is the process of disclosing information about an organisation’s environmental, social, and governance performance. This information can include data on greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, employee wages, and board diversity. ESG reporting is becoming increasingly important as investors, customers, and other stakeholders demand more information about how companies are managing their environmental and social impacts.

This development comes ahead of Zimbabwe Stock Exchange proposed mandatory ESG disclosure among Zimbabwe listed companies which is set to kick in on the on-set of 2024.

In a joint statement issued the companies said they were proud to have obtained independent assurance on our ESG information in show to their commitment to transparency and accountability.  The company added that ESG reporting is essential for building trust with stakeholders and contributing to a more sustainable future.”

The independent assurance of ESG information is becoming increasingly important as investors, customers, and other stakeholders demand more information about how companies are managing their environmental and social impacts.
